One crazy girl

Today was a day of getting a ton of stuff done as tomorrow Nate and I are going to the Iola race with Dan. Dan is racing single speed open, I'm racing comp age and Nate is racing Jr X so we get to head up a little later as the race time is 1:30. I like that but the distance is the thing on the back of my mind. All OK though.
I got the lawn mowed, weeds pulled ( thanks to the putz next door with a ton of dandelions ), pool cleaned, tons of old bike tires and boxes out of the basement and put in the dumptser, Jessie to her soccer game ( they lost ), and a bike ride in. When we got home from her soccer game she begged to go in the pool and as always I say go for it. She went in and stayed in for 15 minutes plus. The water is 68 degrees thanks to Mark for the solar cover last year. A few more sunny days and warmer weather the pool will be nice and warm. Time to load the engine for tomorrows race. Later..

NEWS

LABECKI TO JOIN WIAA EXECUTIVE STAFF AS DEPUTY DIRECTORSTEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved the recommendation of Dave Anderson to name Wade Labecki as the next Deputy Director of the Association at today’s meeting.

Labecki, 45, will fill the deputy director vacancy beginning July 1, 2009, created by the promotion of Anderson to executive director effective Aug. 1. “I’m very excited for the opportunity to work in high school athletics in Wisconsin at the highest level,” Labecki said. “I plan to do my very best to serve the membership.”

Labecki has served as assistant administrator and transportation director at Baldwin-Woodville High School since 2006 and as athletic director since 2000. Responsibilities of these positions included budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, supervising coaches and staff, programming, coordinating school transportation and participating in discipline and truancy issues.

Prior to his most recent positions at Baldwin-Woodville, Labecki taught accounting, business law, general business and Internet classes from 1987-2006. In addition, he served as head football coach from 1988-2004 after one season as defensive coordinator of the 1987 State championship team. He led the Blackhawks to a State Championship in 1992, a State runner-up finish in 1994, five conference titles and a 108-63 record. He coached the Blackhawk baseball team to a 122-55-1 record from 1990-97, which included two conference championships and a State Tournament appearance in 1991.

Labecki was elected to the WIAA Advisory Council last October. Other related experiences include memberships in the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and the Wisconsin High School Forensics Coaches Association. “We were pleased with the quality of candidates that expressed an interest in the deputy director position; it was a robust process involving the staff,” Anderson said. “We are very excited about the skills and experience Wade will bring to our staff and the membership. The ranks of the athletic directors in this state have served this membership well in the past, and we look for that to continue.”

Labecki has received a number of professional honors and awards during his career. Among them was his induction into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008 and his selection to coach in the 2000 Shrine Football All-Star game.

He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Comprehensive Business Education. He received a Masters of Education in Administration degree from St. Mary’s University (Minn.) in 2001 and is currently working on an Educational Specialist and Doctorate of Education degree at Argosy University (Minn.).

A 1982 graduate of Thomas More High School, he served as vice-president of the student body and starred on the football team that won the Wisconsin Independent Schools Athletic Association State championship in 1981. He also lettered in wrestling and track and field during his high school career and was a member of the National Honor Society.

The WIAA oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 503 senior high schools and 116 junior high/middle level schools in its membership. It will sponsor 25 championship tournament series in 2008-09. For more information, please contact the WIAA office at (715) 344-8580.

Oh Yeah

Cece is brewing a pot of coffee and the temps outside are cooling down so I can't wait. Almost ready to put my mouth under the coffee maker. My parents came down again this weekend and they are staying with us while they attend a meeting at Summerfest with the workers that they will be supervising. So it is nice that they are in to visit again. Oh the coffee is ready, got to run. Later..

Beat Down low down

The ride was fun and fast. Nate took a pull just after the Fox River and BOOM he popped. Aaron and Joe went back with me to try to get him to the group again but they just kept rolling away so we rode in with Aaron, Craig, Nate and myself for the rest of the ride as Joe bridged to the group. A good pace of 25 the rest of the way and a good solid ride. He is just finishing his last antibiotic today and that may have effected him a little but he learned that the fast guys are fast and that sometimes you just sit in and go along for the ride. We are ready for the race and now we just have to see where the chips fall on Sunday. Later..

One more time

Nate and I went for a short ride in the neighborhood. It was a short spin to make sure the bike was dialed in and that the new Ergon grips were in the right spot, they were and they are great. Thanks Gus. His bike is ready for the race this weekend, are you?

My bike is the S Works that I put together for Nate last year and he raced it 2 or 3 times. I guess having to settle for a awesome S Works with all SRAM XO on it is OK. Just hope that I can race it as fast as Nate did.

Tomorrow is the Beat Down that goes from Hales Corner Wheel at 6pm. See you there. One more time going race pace and then some easy spinning till the race. Later..

Track Practice

Nate and I headed to the track for some practice with the gang. More sprints and some group riding so we can get used to being close on the fixies. good time and then got home and tore the Bianchi apart so Andy can get a replacement for me. Nate and Gage wore the new kits and they looked good. Need to rest for my Birthday now. Later..

Check the Box

Yeah I get to check the next box now 45 - 49. I turn 45 today. The older you get the easier it seems to be. I never cared about another Birthday and another year tacked on to the body. I just say I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up. I'm not doing anything special for my Birthday except working and then going to the track for a workout with the Boy and the team. Later..

Homeward bound

Just a few pictures from the week upnorth. On the way home now and back to the normal routine. I miss the Northwoods already. Later..

Sat Morning

Last night the kids got to hold snakes and turtles. Some of these kids have never gotten to touch or hold anything other then a dog or cat so this was a new thing for them. Funny to watch some of the reactions from the girls as the snakes were passed around. Then when it got dark we gathered the kids and then told then they couldn't talk anymore and laded a bus and went to a forest and went for a night walk. During the walk they couldn't talk and just had to walk in take in the sounds. They also had no flash lights, cameras, or watches. We walked in the woods and then sat for a while and it was just peaceful as there was no lights or city sounds, man I could get used to that. Today one more class on GPS usage and then we head home. I need to get on a bike bad. Later..

Life is Good

Today we went to Bond Falls in the UP and the kids got to net things in the water and identify what they caught. Then we went to the Falls and they were beautiful. After a nice bag lunch it was off to a walk in the Ottawa National Wilderness. That was awesome and got to sit by a lake for a while. Now are in a class about Herpetiles, then we are going out for a night walk. Back home tomorrow night and back to the routine. Later..

All Good

The kids broke up into 3 groups and were dropped off in several spots in the the middle of a National Forest and had to find their way out to a pickup spot. They all made it. It was about a mile through the forest up and down several hills and all. When they got to the road they had to walk about a 1/2 mile and picked up all the trash on the way, what a cool group of kids. Now we are in a class about Wolfs and Coyotes. Cool stuff. Later..

Morning classes

The classes this morning where set up for some team building and problem solving. The kids were amazing and solved the issues great. Then the 2nd class was tree identification. For a bunch of city kids they did great and got most of the trees right. Now we are off to a forest to get lost and find our way out using a compass. Later..

Day 1

Here are a few pictures from Trees For Tomorrow after we arrived. It is a great place and a fun time. A lot to be learned in a short period of time but well worth it. Today is some outdoor tree identification, survival skills, maps, compass skills and learning about wolves. Should be a fun day as most of these kids never get to go out in the woods like this much less ever up north in their lives. Time to get learning. Later..

Track Time

Tonight Nate and I went to Kenosha for a track workout. Gage joined us as did Russell who decided to put let the air out of his tire, along with 12 others to make a nice workout. There is nothing like riding a track bike, pure spin, and of course no brakes. Just ask Gage as he forgot and he tried to coast and just about threw himself over the bars. You usually do that once a year and after that your body will never forget about not coasting after a good old scare like that. We did a 40 lap warm up then the sprints, flying 1 laps, and a 200 meter sprint to finish the night. A good old way to turn the legs to jello and open the lungs. Can't wait to go again next week. I love riding the track but I just wish I had some leg speed as 16 years ago it was robbed from me, but I'm just happy to ride I guess much less breathing.

Got home and then packed the gear bag packed with the clothes for the next 4 days in Eagle River with Maddie's class. Should be fun and a nice break from work. Have to go over the bag and supplies one more time so I don't forget anything. Later..

Trees 4 Tomorrow

Wednesday I leave to be a chaperon on Maddie's class trip to Trees for Tomorrow. I went last year, my Dad went the year prior. This Year the both of us are going. Should be fun and the kids will have fun with the 2 of us there as we are just 2 big kids. The trip is from Wed to Sat so I have a few days of recovery this week and then get ready for the 1st WORS race. Thought about taking a bike but the free time is about 40 minutes before each meal as there is classes till 8pm every night so there is no chance to ride any how. Last year we went during the winter and it was below zero everyday and all day while we where there. This year they decided to go in late spring in hopes of better weather. Looks to be better with a slight chance of rain. Now I have to start packing . Later..

1st communion part 2

Here are some of the pictures from Jessica's 1st communion yesterday. She had a great day and the weather was well perfect. She got her hair done in the morning and then the Mass was in order. Some of the parents and families that attended need some lessons in church behavior that is for sure. Then it was a gathering at the house with family and friends that turned out real nice. Today Jessica was supposed to have a soccer game but no one called the coach to tell her that they were called off because of the 1st communion weekend. Needless to say we got there and found out there was no game so we left and Nate and I got a nice bike ride in then. Now I just need to get the feet up and take a nap. Later..

Carol doing Jessica's hair.
Jess and Carol after her hair Do.
Jess look here, Dad I'm not supposed to look at you guys. Why won't she listen like that at home?

1st communion

The 1st communion was great and the kids were better then these parents. I have to say these parents are real pieces of work. But other then that the day was great. Now we are just enjoying the day. Tomorrow we are having Mothers day as my parents are in town. Later..

Add H2O

Pool filling and Nate tryin a new bike skill.

About 8 hours of filling and 8 inches to go.
Nate giving my old unicycle a try. I tried and it is a no go for me.

Took the 1/2 day off and got the pool filling. The meter is spinning away as I sit here. I'm picturing a high $bill after this fill. The kids are asking to go in tomorrow and I say go for it. The water temp is about 50 but don't tell them. The first time they go in it is always cold and I love the look on their face, priceless as the cold hits them and takes their breath away. Also got the weeds pulled and several things on the race bikes tuned and ready. Now watching the Brewers and relaxing as I'm beat. Jessica's 1st communion tomorrow. Later..

1/2 day

Taking a 1/2 day to get the pool up as Nate is off and my parents are in to help. We will start filling it see if the girls want in while it is still cold. I wonder if they learned from last year. I will put the nice solar cover on that Mark got me and that should help warm it up faster this year. Just have to get the chems right again. That will be Cece's job as last year when it was green after Nationals I dumped 2 gallons of green gone in and then the kids had to what a few days to get in as the chlorine was off the charts. I will leave it to the former chemist to keep the kids safe. Got to run. Later..

Beat Down

Have to tell you if you don't have some fitness this ride will drill it into you. Joe and Jeff were pulling us in on Woods road at 35 mph. Big ring was in order today as the ride was at my limit most of the ride after Janesville rd. The guys taking the pulls were just looking at each other and drilling it trying to drop everyone was trying to stay on. Thanks Jeff for closing many gaps and keeping us with the lead group and the pullers for doing a lot of the work. Now I need to eat some of the leftovers to make room for Jessica's treats for her 1st communion. Later..

No more sitting

Done with the class and I know one thing I can not sit all day as I don't have the ass for that. We took the test today and I actually learned some things believe it or not, just ask me a question. The test was easy and got 1 wrong as the federal handle 1 thing different and we put the state regulation answer down and the correct was federal answer but they are taking the state one also so I got a 100%.

Now we are on the way home and got a little time so we are taking the bone ride route home to enjoy the scenery. There is a lot of standing water int he fields yet and with more rain there is going to be a ton of water for a long time again. I hope that the trails are open soon as I need some time on the mountain bike bad. I hope the bmx skills help for the first race or 2 as far as bike handling but the legs may be a different story, oh well just have to wait and see.

Tonight going to try to get the road bikes out if the weather holds up. Then get more done for Jessica's 1st communion done. She is so excited and it has been fun watching her excitement for it. Later..

Scales and more scales

Today was a long boring day in Madison sitting listening to a guy tell us how to test a scale. There really is only 1 way and that is to put the weights on it and see if it is with in tolerance or not. But there is a formula for the way the weights are placed on the scale and where they are placed for the test to be accepted. It is a lot of words ( thanks to the Gov't ) to how and what is to be done, but in the end it is take the weights out of the box and put them on the scales and see if the scale is correctly stating the fact that what you put on it is what it says. If it is correct you put that special little sticker on it and go on, if not you leave and order to get it fixed or replace it. There is still more fun tomorrow as I have to get on the road again and sit there for another day. But rest assured you can depend on me to test the scales and pumps in Milwaukee in the right manner. Got to get some crap done as Jessica has her 1st communion Saturday so got to do some cleaning. Later..

Randy has skills

The other day I meet up with Randy to do some riding and this is a short video of his skills. You have to check him out. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRlETldGhWI Later..

Need an Ark

With more rain on the way and 4 plus on the ground over the last 2 days I'm starting to think that an Ark is better then a bike around here. Hopefully the rain is minimal and that the sun pops out soon. See you down river. Later..

Just a feeling

Just hunch that if you rode the trails around here right now this is what it would look like. With all the rain I think that they will be closed for a few days to weeks so the road will be the main way to train. I went to pick Nate up down in Kenosha this afternoon and the farm fields had little lakes in them and the creeks were now small fast flowing rivers. Can only hope that the winds and sun will dry them out in the next days or even weeks. Rain Rain Go Away. Later..
